The St. Catharines Public Library offers a range of assistive technology and equipment that are available to customers.
Adjustable Desks
Adjustable desks allow for adjustment to a height not normally possible with a standard desk to cater to specialized seating arrangements and unique physical needs.
Available at the Central Library, Dr. Huq Family Library Branch and Merritt Branch.
Dome Magnifier
This magnifier provides distortion-free magnification simply by placing the magnifier on the reading material.
Available at all library locations.
Large Screen Monitors
Allows for better zoom capability when using software such as ZoomText.
Available at the Central Library, Dr. Huq Family Library Branch and Merritt Branch.
Large Print Keyboards
These keyboards have a bigger and bolder typeface and the keys are easier to see. This provides a comfortable typing experience for users.
Available at all library locations.
Trackball & Mouse
This large trackball requires less fine motor control and allows for more accurate movements. Large buttons make clicking easier.
Available at all library locations.
ZoomText
ZoomText is a program that magnifies the computer screen for visually impaired users. This program also has the ability to speak to the user while they work. Available at the Central Library, Dr. Huq Family Library Branch and Merritt Branch.
The St. Catharines Public Library endeavors to make our collections, equipment, services and locations accessible to everyone. We offer materials in various formats, including large print, ebooks and audiobooks, as well as equipment such as magnifiers, specialized screen magnification software, text-to-speech software and more. Coin-operated photocopiers are available at the Central, Dr. Huq Family Library and Merritt branches. Copies are 20 cents each.
The Central, Dr. Huq, Merritt and Port branches are equipped with a multi-function colour printer/scanner/copier. Items can be printed/ or scanned to e-mail or USB drives. The printers can also print PDF documents directly from a USB device.* Monochrome print-outs are 20 cents per page. Colour print-outs are 50 cents per page.
*Staff will assist customers with all printing, copying and scanning when using the multi-function printers. Staff are able to scan up to 15 items for a customer at a time and may assist further as time permits.

Need a quiet place to study? In addition to our various study tables across our locations, we also offer two semi-private study rooms and one private study room at our Central Library.
At our branches, we have dedicated Open Study Hours to ensure a quiet space for students to excel. Open Study Hours are drop-in and do not require any registration. Check out our events calendar for select Open Study times.
Customers may choose to receive e-mail notification of items being held for them or for the first reminder of overdue items, instead of receiving an automated telephone call.
