3D Printing FAQ
The library's 3D printing service is available at the Central Library, located at 54 Church Street. Print jobs should be submitted in person with the file saved on a USB stick.
3D files can be .stl, .obj, or .thing
The maximum build volume is 10” x 6” x 6.7” or 254 mm x 154 mm x 170 mm
Please note:
- We are not able to accept print jobs that exceed 11 hours build time.
- We are not able to splice larger builds.
We use PLA filament, and customers are welcome to choose from the colours currently available in stock.
Print time depends on several factors including the number of jobs already in the queue, staff availability, and the size and complexity of your job.
You are welcome to visit the library to watch the 3D printer work, however, we can't guarantee when we will print your project.
Your completed 3D print may include a brim and supports. The brim helps the print adhere to the build plate, while supports ensure proper printing of overhangs and fine details.
The brim usually comes off easily. If it sticks, use pliers to carefully lift each corner, then gently use a scraper to separate the brim from the print.
Supports are generally easy to snap off, but some may require pliers or tweezers for removal. For a smoother finish, you can use a metal file or sandpaper to refine your print.
