Explore the power of poetry this National Poetry Month
April is National Poetry Month! Practicing prose has been part of our history for thousands of years. Celebrate poetry, new and old, with us this National Poetry Month!
Why is it important to celebrate poetry?
Poetry gives us a unique and creative outlet for connecting with one another and the world around us. It can help us cathartic through challenging emotions, relate to others’ experiences, and tells our stories long after we’re gone. Despite the centuries since it was written, we can still delight in a Shakespearian sonnet and relate to the emotions of a character’s story. Poetry is a literary art form that transcends time to give context and meaning to the here and now.
Beyond the benefits of its healing nature, writing, reading, and interpreting history is a masterclass in creativity and literacy. It promotes creative thinking, nurtures communications skills, and helps develop vocabulary.
