Teen Review: Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables

L. M. Montgomery

In Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, Anne Shirley, a spirited and imaginative orphan, is accidentally sent to live with the Cuthberts on Prince Edward Island. The novel follows Anne’s life, friendships, misadventures, and growth as she finds a true home and community.

The book’s strengths include its beautiful writing and descriptions; a charming, memorable protagonist; and heartwarming themes of family and identity. Its weaknesses include that it is overly descriptive; some may find it slow; and Anne’s dramatic personality may be too much for some people. I loved Anne’s creativity, optimism, and growth. I occasionally disliked the overly flowery language, but it fits the story’s tone. This book is great for readers who enjoy wholesome, character-driven stories, historical settings, or comforting classics. Fans of Louisa May Alcott will love it. I would rate this book 9/10.
