Teen Review: Avatar

Avatar

Movie

Avatar is the story of Jake Sully, a wheelchair-bound former marine. After the loss of his brother and obtaining an injury, he decides to take his brother’s place as a scientist. Without any training, he travels to the planet Pandora, where he meets new people and learns about his new job. His new job is helping research the planet to find expensive minerals using an artificial body made of human and native DNA. On one of the missions, he gets lost, and with the help of a native, he finds a village and stays there. After some time, Jake gains the trust of the natives and starts learning about their culture. Later, we find out that the company Jake is working for is planning to destroy the village with the help of Jake’s data. The natives then fight the company but lose the battle. Later, Jake tames a powerful beast, and with its help, unites different tribes to fight the humans again. After a long battle, Jake and the natives emerge victorious, and Jake finally becomes one of the natives.

This movie has its own strengths and weaknesses. For example, the original movie is over two and a half hours long, which could make some viewers lose interest. However, one of its strengths is its use of CGI. The movie came out in 2009, but the CGI is well done and creative. One of the things I liked was the character development of the main characters, we can clearly see how they change over the course of the movie. Although I disliked that this movie was quite long, I recommend it to the people who do enjoy long movies or fantasy. I give this movie a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
