Teen Review: Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing

Rebecca Yarros

The first book of the Fourth Wing series by Rebecca Yarros is a mastery of dragons, magic and fantasy. Rebecca is an extremely talented author and has created a masterpiece with this book. The development of the main character, Violet Sorrengail, is an adventure on its own, from the start of the book, as Violet sets foot onto the parapet for the first time, until the end of book, as she fights her way through her first year and the challenges her teachers and higher ups throw at her. Rebecca Yarros is a gifted writer, and each chapter is highly detailed and extremely well-written and pays much attention to the emotional appeal her words have on her readers. This book highlights friendship and resilience and connects the readers to the characters, mourning losses along with the rest of the characters.

This book is one of my first recommendations to give anyone looking for book recommendations, while it was not one of my first fantasy reads by far, it was one of the best and is a perfect next read for anyone interested in fantasy, romance, dystopian or modernized medieval era fantasy books. Also, for those that have read From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout or any of her other series, The Cruel Prince series by Holly Black or the Dance of Thieves duology by Mary Pearson, the Fourth Wing series is a perfect match for you.
