Teen Review: Midnights
Midnights (2022)
by Taylor Swift
Midnights is the first edition of Taylor Swift’s 10th album. She has also recorded Midnights (3am Edition) with 20 songs and Midnights (The Till Dawn Edition) with 23 songs, including remixes by two female artists, Lana Del Rey and Ice Spice.
Taylor is an amazing lyricist and has brought a unique rhythm to this album. A weakness I found was that there was a lot of repetition. The beats are very similar, which conflicts with the different aesthetic she goes for in every song.
Swift has always been involved with the media, and I found in the first song on the album, 'Lavender Haze’, she expresses her feelings toward the media and what they have portrayed her as. I think she carries that feeling throughout the entirety of the album. It's very compelling to hear throughout this piece of music.
Some strengths in Taylor Swift’s Midnights include her vocals and lyricism. Her vocal range being able to seem so simple yet so emotional is very enthralling. Her lyrics in this album are captivating and strong. Her song with Lana Del Rey, ‘Snow on the beach’ was enriching. Their voices together sounded like an echo of amazing talent, and it was breathtaking.
Midnights won 3 Grammy awards including album of the year. Her final song on this album ‘Mastermind’ is my overall favourite. The upbeat mood and the simple lyrics flow together so well.
I would recommend this album to anyone because of the different vibe in every song. I think this is one of her best albums. It is attention-grabbing and a piece of art.
