Teen Review: The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars
John Green
The Fault in Our Stars is a young adult romance novel about two teenagers experiencing love, grief, and life together while battling cancer. The main character, Hazel, is a teenager living with cancer that has spread to her lungs. She meets Augustus Waters, a charming and witty cancer survivor, at a support group. He brought a new perspective on living to her as they embark on a journey filled with hope, heartbreak, and discovery. Through their relationship, they confront the realities of illness and the beauty of living and loving despite limited time.
The novel captures the emotions of love, loss, and hope in a raw and genuine way, making the characters feel incredibly real. John Green’s writing style is poetic and filled with memorable quotes. However, the pacing in the first half can feel slow for some readers, and the emotional depth of the story may be overwhelming for those looking for a lighter read.
The Fault in Our Stars is one of my favorite romance books because it portrays love so beautifully and realistically through its characters. I loved how the book made the emotions feel real and relatable, touching readers deeply. The first half is a bit slow, and I know many people who gave up because of the pacing, but finishing the book is absolutely worth it. It does get very emotional — it might even bring you to tears!
I would recommend this book to fans of coming-of-age stories and those who enjoy slice-of-life romance novels. It explores deep themes and features many meaningful quotes. In my opinion, it is the most beautifully written book by John Green. 5 out of 5 stars
