Teen Review: The Hobbit
The Hobbit
J. R. R. Tolkien
The Hobbit is an intriguing tale about a little man called Bilbo Baggins who goes on an adventure over mountains and beneath brush to steal a treasure from a fearsome foe. There's Elves and Dwarves, Wizards and Dragons, Goblins and Eagles, some foes, some friends, and some in between. This prequel to the famous Lord of the Rings is truly a must-read story.
It is well written and very detailed, with many twists and turns that make it a page-turner. It has cliffhangers and climaxes, and some wonderful character development for our main protagonist. The only issue is the way it's written makes it difficult to follow, using speech and slang from a hundred years ago when it was created. That and the fact that it’s hard to put the book down once you’ve started reading it.
The Hobbit is a must-read for any fantasy story lovers, especially those who read books like Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and/or The Wheel of Time. This book can be enjoyable for all ages 7 and up. It's a timeless read for all generations.
