SCPL receives Community Builder Award!

On Tuesday, June 9, the St. Catharines Public Library was honoured to receive the Community Builder Award at the annual Contributors’ Celebration Breakfast, hosted by Bridges Niagara Immigrant and Refugee Services. The award was presented to SCPL in conjunction with friends from Welland Public Library and Niagara Falls Public Library.

This award recognizes the Library's contributions helping newcomers and immigrants build pathways to meaningful employment and develop a sense of belonging in the community through interactive and skill-building programming. Programs include:

English Club

A weekly meet up at the Library with volunteers from Bridges Niagara who support attendees with English-learning skills including listening, speaking, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

Digital Skills for Seniors

An 8-week series for seniors and older adults to learn and enhance their digital skills, help keep in touch with friends and family, and connect with others in their community.

Habilidades Digitales Para Adultos Mayores (Spanish Language Digital Skills for Seniors)

An 8-week series for Spanish-speaking seniors and older adults to learn and enhance their digital skills, help keep in touch with friends and family, and connect with others in their community.

Multiculturalism Day Celebration

A celebration at the Library with the Bridges Niagara Community Connections team where participants are invited to create national flag replicas representing the many communities of immigrants that have made St. Catharines their home.

Through this partnership with Bridges Niagara, SCPL has been able to welcome dozens of immigrants and newcomers to the library and create an inclusive space for all in St. Catharines. Thank you to Bridges Niagara for this honour and for all of their continued work across the Region to create a welcoming community for newcomers to call home.
