Teen Review: Wonder
Wonder
R. J. Palacio
Wonder tells the story of August “Auggie” Pullman, a boy with a facial difference, as he navigates public school for the first time. The novel explores themes of kindness, acceptance, and empathy through multiple perspectives.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
The book’s strength is its heartwarming message and relatable depiction of bullying, friendship, and family. The different character perspectives add depth, though the writing is simple and might feel predictable to some readers.
Likes and Dislikes:
I loved how the story promotes kindness and shows the importance of seeing beyond appearances. The multiple viewpoints made it easy to connect with different characters. My only minor dislike is that some plot points felt a little predictable.
Recommendation:
I would recommend this book to teens and young adults who enjoy heartwarming, inspiring stories about personal growth and empathy. It’s especially great for readers interested in books about friendship, family, and overcoming challenges.
