Community Needs Assessment: What We Heard

You shared. We listened.

SCPL undertook a Community Needs Assessment to better understand how residents use and experience the library today, and what they may need from it over the next ten years.

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, contributed to an in-branch input station, or spoke with us at a community pop-up. Your experiences, ideas, and priorities helped shape what we learned.

You described SCPL as welcoming, trusted, and connected to the community.

Collections, programs & technology remain priorities.

You shared that you are looking for:

more choice & availability

flexible & varied programs

more digital content

practical tech help

more opportunities for gaming, hands-on making & creative learning.

There is more to discover.

Even among regular users, many were not familiar with some SCPL services:

Access and spaces need to fit real life.

You shared that you use library spaces for study, work, reading, family activity, programs, technology, social connection, and staff help – sometimes all at once.

Thank you!

Your input gave us a clearer understanding of what you value today, where barriers remain, and how community needs are changing.
