Teen Review: Brat

Brat

Charli XCX

This album, which includes 15 songs, is Charli XCX’s first out of three editions of ‘Brat’. Charli XCX is no new artist. She's made top hits from ‘I Love It’ to ‘Boom Clap’. This album is what made her well known to the music industry.

Brat has new beats and pulses that excite you. It's a new style of modern listening. The second track on this album consists of sound waves to amplify her aesthetic, which I liked. A strength she has brought to this album is the range of music she has produced without it sounding entirely new. Her fourth track has a slower rhythm and an empathetic feeling. Her other tracks, not so much, but they come together in a way that fits in this album.

A weakness of this album I found was that most of her voice is under some sort of tuning, which I felt wasn't needed with the background synth beats. It's a little too much at the same time.

Her most popular song from this album that made her more well-known was track number eleven, ‘Apple’. It reached such popularity that there is now a specific dance you would think of or do during the chorus. This piece of music includes vocals, rhythm and the mix of pop with rave music. Such a cool listen and, ultimately, a needed listen.

Rating: 3/5 stars

It’s not my go-to with the ‘hyperpop,’ but certainly a great record with massive hits.
