Teen Review: Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
Angela Duckworth
“Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” is a non-fiction, self-help book written by psychologist Angela Duckworth. The book Grit explores how success’s best predictor is not IQ but rather being able to persevere and follow through on long-term goals, a quality called grit. The secret to achievement does not lie in talent but in the continuous pursuit of one’s passion. The book also highlights that the key to success, grit, can be learned and cultivated. Despite being a book written based on scientific research, the author is able to convey abstract ideas in simple language that is understandable to all audiences. The author relates grit to personal experiences, interviews with individuals from various professions who demonstrate grit, case studies, and offers practical advice on applying grit in real life. I gave this book a 5 out of 5. The strengths of this book include its readability and the valuable information it provides. The author is able to transfer academic research to a language that's engaging and coherent. The content is inspiring and impactful. The book includes easy-to-follow examples backed up by scientific research. The only weakness the book may have is that it may take some readers longer to read, since it is non-fiction and divided into many sections. I enjoyed the book immensely, and Grit changed the way I perceive success. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a student, educator, parent or someone interested in psychology.
