Teen Review: Karate Kid
Karate Kid
Movie
The main character is Dre Parker, a 12-year-old boy who moves from Detroit to Beijing with his mother after she gets a new job. Struggling to adjust to a completely different culture, Dre feels isolated and becomes the target of bullying by Cheng, a skilled kung fu student. After a violent confrontation leaves him humiliated and injured, Dre is rescued by Mr. Han, a quiet maintenance worker who secretly possesses extraordinary martial arts abilities. Mr. Han agrees to train Dre in kung fu so he can compete in an upcoming tournament against Cheng and his classmates. The training is demanding and unusual, involving repetitive everyday tasks like hanging up a jacket, which gradually teach Dre discipline, balance, and self-control. As their bond deepens, Dre learns about Mr. Han’s tragic past and gains confidence both physically and emotionally. Meanwhile Dre befriends a girl named Meiying, In the final tournament he defeats Cheng gaining respect from his opponents and from everyone.
What I liked
- Lot’s of action and intensity throughout the movie.
- Very strong and good plot.
- Does it’s own thing while holding up to the 1984 original movie.
Overall 4/5
