Teen Review: Portal 2
It Takes Two
Video Game
Portal 2 is the sequel to the game Portal. The story follows the main character, Chell, initially trying to escape the lab she is in. Over a sequence of events, she meets Wheatley, an AI with a sphere-like body, previously used to weaken another AI, GLaDOS. Wheatley helps Chell escape but accidentally turns on previously defeated GLaDOS. After escaping GLaDOS, Chell and Wheatley create a diversion, which weakens GLaDOS. Chell finally defeats GLaDOS and replaces her with Wheatley, but everything goes wrong. Wheatly becomes maniacal with all the power and tries to defeat both Chell and GLaDOS. Wheatley drops Chell and GLaDOS in an elevator shaft. After facing some challenges, Chell and GLaDOS make it back to the main lab, where Wheatley meets us and makes us complete puzzles. After nearly escaping death, GLaDOS and Chell try to make Wheatley weaker. They find the button they used previously to switch GLaDOS and Wheatley, but it turns out that the button is now connected to explosives. Using the newly formed hole in the ceiling, Chell opens the portal on the Moon, sending Wheatley into space.
This game has a few strengths and weaknesses. The first strength, in my opinion, is that it keeps to the story. The game is highly connected to the story, with not so many opportunities to go exploring on your own. The one weakness I found was the puzzles. They are sometimes challenging, which makes the game difficult if you are not good with puzzles. Something I like about the game is its availability. This game is available on multiple platforms, which makes it easy to find. I could not find anything to dislike. Overall, I give this item 5 stars.
